It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon when my golden retriever, Cooper, decided to sprint straight through the open patio door. Before I could even yell his name, he had left a trail of heavy, wet, clay-rich mud directly across my pristine, cream-colored living room rug. My immediate instinct was panic. I grabbed a rag and … Read more
Last February, I stood in my entryway staring down at my favorite dark wool rug, feeling my chest tighten. A massive, crusty white ring had taken over the center, looking less like a home accessory and more like a miniature salt flat. In my eager rush to keep my family from slipping on the icy … Read more
I was staring at the high-traffic lane in my living room, and it looked like a literal dirt road. My beautiful, cream-colored Berber was practically grey. In my infinite wisdom, I grabbed a stiff-bristled brush and some dish soap. Big mistake. Within ten minutes, I hadn’t just failed to lift the dirt; I had managed … Read more
It was a Tuesday night, I had just finished a long day of post-construction cleanup at a client’s house, and I decided to finally relax by lighting my favorite vanilla bean candle. I stood there, staring at my beautiful new floor, completely out of breath. It felt like I was trying to plow a field rather than tidy up my home. It happened on a Tuesday morning, right after I had finished a grueling deep house cleaning routine. I was standing there, mug in hand, admiring the way the natural weave of my brand-new sisal rug complemented the morning light. Then, my cat decided that was the perfect moment for a zoomie-induced launch off my ankle. … Read more
I’ll never forget the sinking feeling in my gut when I saw the beige ‘tumbleweeds’ rolling across my brand-new hallway. I had just finished a massive renovation, meticulously checked off every item on my post-construction cleanup checklist, and spent a small fortune on high-end wool-blend carpeting. Three days later, it looked like a sheep had … Read more
I remember sitting on my sofa last Tuesday, trying to enjoy a cup of tea, but I felt like I was wearing a woolly mammoth. My favorite navy blue fleece throw—the one that is supposed to be soft and cozy—was completely carpeted in white Lab hair. I had just washed it, yet there it was, … Read more
It was a Tuesday morning in the dead of January, and I was shuffling across my living room in my favorite oversized wool socks. I reached for the brass doorknob to let the dog out, and—CRACK—a blue spark jumped an inch from my finger. I actually let out a little yelp. It’s a ridiculous way … Read more
It was 6:45 AM, and my house was finally quiet after a weekend of guests. I was holding my favorite oversized mug, filled to the brim with a dark, oily French roast. Then, the dog decided he absolutely needed to be exactly where my feet were. I watched in slow motion as a pint of … Read more
